Funeral services have been set for Lt. David Dillon who was killed early Saturday morning when the bicylce he was ridding was hit by a vehicle.
Dillon's visitation service will be held Tuesday, July 2nd from 6PM-8PM at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church at 3312 Calvin Drive, Lawrence.
Dillon's funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 3rd at 10AM at the same church.
A memorial fund has been set up in Lt. David Dillon's name at all CornerBank locations in Lawrence.
Dillon was killed Saturday morning, June 28th at 7:45 AM while ridding his bike on County Road 442 near Eudora. The Kansas Highway Patrol says Dillon was struck by a vehicle from behind.
It is alleged that the driver of that vehicle was 20-year-old Kyle Van Meter from Eudora. There is no word on if the young man faces any charges in regards to the accident, that information will likely be released on early this week.
Dillon died at the scene; he was not on duty at the time of the accident.
His extended work family is stunned by the news, "Our hearts are heavy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends and too, with each of our officers who were privileged to work with Lt. Dillon. He will be greatly missed," Kari Wempe with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said Saturday in a printed release.
"Lt. Dillon was well liked and well respected professionally by our officers and those he worked with so diligently in the corrections filed across the U.S." Wempe added.
Lt. David Dillon served as Douglas County Jail Operations Lieutenant for 26 years.
