TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is asking most state agencies to cut planned spending for the upcoming budget year.
Sebelius announced Friday that she's asking agencies to cut from 1 percent to 2 percent in their budgets for the spending year beginning July 1.
She said no cuts should be made in areas that would affect students, such as the formula to fund public schools.
The governor said the cuts are needed because economic growth has been slowing and state general fund receipts were $50 million below expectations last month.
