The Topeka Fire and Police Departments want you to have a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July holiday season. And as such, there are certain regulations, per City Code, that need to be followed when discharging fireworks in the city limits.
Fireworks can only be discharged in the city limits during the following times.
June 27-July 1, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
July 2-4, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
July 5, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
· An adult must be present any time fireworks are being discharged.
· Fireworks are not to be discharged toward other people or structures.
· Any type of firework that is not considered a consumer firework or anything prohibited by federal or state statute or regulation shall not be discharged. This includes bottle rockets.
Failure to follow City Code 70-57, will result in confiscation of fireworks and/or citations which can cost between $250-$499 and 179 days in jail, per violation.
To report a violation regarding the sale of fireworks, contact the Topeka Fire Prevention Division at 785-368-4000 and ask to speak with an Inspector. If the violation involves illegal fireworks, the discharge of fireworks, or anything other than the sale of fireworks, contact Dispatch (368-9200 Non-emergency/911 Emergency) and report the information.
