On Sunday, June 22, 2008 a costly mistake was made at a BP terminal site. Diesel fuel was accidentally mixed with regular gasoline and then sent out on 4 or 5 trucks to be delivered to these BP stations:
1.) 335 Kansas St. - Ft. Leavenworth
2.) 3034 Iowa St. - Lawrence
3.) 25500 Old Kansas City Rd. - Hillsdale
4.) 3000 North Topeka Blvd. - Topeka
At the Topeka location, the truck began dumping the fuel around 8:05. The station says only about 4 customers filled up between that time and when they closed at 9:00. By then the problem was recognized and corrected by the time they opened on Tuesday.
BP says they guarantee every gallon of gasoline and apologize for the mistake. They are encouraging customers who may have fueled up at one of the four locations between 4 and 8 p.m. Sunday evening and are experiencing poor engine performance to call them at 1-800-333-3991. They are offering to pay to have customer's vehicle fuel systems flushed, fuel filters replaced, and tanks refilled with new gasoline.
