Sen. Pat Roberts Draws Attention to Prescription Drug Costs

Senator Pat Roberts visited a Topeka pharmacy Friday to discuss prescription drug and Medicare issues.

Roberts says the problem with Medicare legislation right now is that some lawmakers want to regulate the health care providers like Jayhawk Pharmacy and Patient Supply by setting reimbursements at a level that doesn't cover costs.

He says that forces health care providers to make tough decisions like going out of business or not serving anyone that's on Medicare.

Roberts says he's working to take rationing out of the Medicare package currently under consideration.

But Democrat Jim Slattery, who's seeking Roberts senate seat, disagrees.

He says taxpayers shouldn't subsidize the pharmaceutical industry and Slattery points out contributions Roberts has accepted from drug companies.
