An employer's support of his employee's two deployments have earned his Walgreens store an award from the Kansas National Guard.

Walgreens store manager James Tignor was nominated by Sgt. Michael Mathewson for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve award.

Tignor held Mathewson's job at the Walgreens on 10th and Gage open while Mathewson was deployed first to Kosovo, then to headquarters in support of the war in Iraq. Mathewson says Tignor also kept in touch with him, to make sure he and his family were doing all right.

Chuck Bredahl presented the "My Boss is a Patriot" award to Tignor and Walgreens district manager Jeffery McKillop Wednesday.

"It's very important to the well-being of the soldier and their family knowing that the employer supports them, they will have a job when they return from any deployment or training activities and their family has the knowledge they'll have a job and can be self-assured in that arena," Bredahl said.
