EMPORIA, Kan. (AP) _ A southeast Kansas construction company and Salina manufacturer have received top honors from the Kansas Cavalry business group.
Crossland Construction Company of Columbus was winner of the Governor's Award of Excellence, while Salina Vortex Corporation was the top exporter of 2007. The awards were presented Tuesday by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius at a gathering of business leaders.
Crossland began 30 years ago in the garage of Ivan Crossland. Today, it has offices in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. It has 75 major construction projects under way across the region.
Vortex makes valves that are used to produce a variety of goods, from potato chips to solid rocket boosters for NASA. Vortex increased its exports from 2004 to 2007 by 148 percent.
