MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) _ A Fort Riley soldier is dead after a police pursuit in Riley County.
Private Gary Guerra Jr. died in the Monday night crash in Manhattan and a 22-year-old passenger in the vehicle was released after hospital treatment.
Riley County police say the chase followed an earlier incident with a knife at a bowling alley allegedly involving the 26-year-old Guerra and an employee of the business who was threatened. Witnesses alerted police to Guerra's fleeing vehicle and officers gave chase.
The Highway Patrol said Guerra lost control of the car, crossed K-18 and rolled over several times in a ditch, ejecting Guerra.
KMAN-AM reported Guerra was with the 1st Battalion, 7th field artillery at Fort Riley.
