TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger
says her department can help victims of recent weather disasters who have questions about insurance.
Praeger said staffers are ready to act as liaisons between consumers and their carriers, and can be reached by calling the department's consumer hotline at 800-432-2484. They can provide contact information and help property owners locate claims adjusters working in the storm zone.
Praeger said consumers should deal directly with the claims adjusters from their own insurance companies and not public adjusters. Public adjusters aren't licensed to provide services in Kansas.
Twisters Wednesday and Thursday caused tens of millions of dollars in damage to homes and businesses in Kansas.
