Emergency Management Team Stands Down

Shawnee County Emergency Management stood down at 8:30 p.m. Thursday after storms tracked to the south.

At 6:35 p.m. SCEM activated for possible flooding issues following preliminary indicators of flooding including standing water in streets, reports of water in homes and rising waters in the Shunganunga Creek. Most of the indicators occurred in the 23rd & Randolph /23rd & MacVicar area.

SCEM will remain partially staffed to monitor the weather and assess damage. The only report of the Shunganunga Creek leaving its banks was at Gage Blvd. and Shunga Creek in the park, resulting in no property damage.

SCEM will assess outlying areas of the county Friday morning.

The shelter that was established at the Kansas Expocentre for those displaced by water has closed.

Residents whose homes were affected by water and who need shelter can call the Red Cross at 866-990-9910.
