A new skate park will open at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at Chesney Park, near 1800 SW Clay St., Topeka.
The opening ceremony is part of the Weed and Seed Community Safety Fair that day.
The facility was built over an unused tennis court in the park, and got help from a $30,000 Empowerment Grant, applied for by the Chesney Park NIA.
Parks & Recreation of Topeka Park Planner Bill Riphahn worked with the NIA and sought input from neighborhood youth during the design phase of the project.
The new skate park covers more than 5,000 square feet and includes quarter pipes, grind rails, bank ramps and other features.
