HuffPost's Stein: Sebelius Completes "Obama Puzzle"

As the Huffington Post takes a closer look at the choices on Sen. Barack Obama's short list of running mates, Sam Stein takes an in depth look at a possible Obama-Sebelius pairing and examines what the Kansas Governor adds to the ticket.

Citing the recovery effort in Greensburg and the State of the Union Address response, Stein reflects on instances when Sebelius confronted President Bush on a national stage.

"Sebelius was quick to highlight one of the unspoken truths of the recovery episode [in Greensburg]:," Stein writes. "Kansas lacked the resources and manpower it needed because much of the state's National Guard resources had been sent to Iraq... Her rebukes earned her accolades in Kansas and with the press."

Then, in January, Sebelius was tapped to deliver the Democratic response to the State of the Union Address; an episode during which Stein claims she "stumbled, offering up what observers deemed a fairly safe, some said milquetoast, address."

Claiming that the Illinois Senator and Kansas Governor "enjoy a warm relationship" and that she would likely join Obama's pursuit of the Oval Office, Stein sees certain caveats which may hurt her chances.

Her current role as governor offers her "limited direct national security experience" He quotes Christian Morgan, executive director for the Kansas Republican Party, who said Seblius "has no idea how military budgets work, or what it is like to be a commander in chief."

Also, Stein points to recent polls which indicate that, even with Sebelius on the ticket, Obama would not carry Kansas.Read the entire article
