Large Amounts of Construction to Begin Monday

(Topeka, Kan.) - 13 News is on your side with several major road construction alerts.

Reconstruction of the five-legged Topeka intersection of Kansas Avenue, Gordon Street and Northwest Central Street begins Monday.

That means starting next week the north leg of Kansas Avenue will be closed for up to 30 days during construction.

The Central Street portion of the intersection will be permanently closed, a cul-de-sac will be built there.

Signals will be removed and a stop sign placed on the north and south leg of Kansas.

The southbound detour on Kansas will be Fairchild to Quincy Street to Gordon.

This reconstruction project includes new streetlights, sidewalks, and landscaping.


The $1.8 million resurfacing project on K-10 will begin in Johnson County Monday and will run through mid summer.

Construction will begin on the Douglas/Johnson County line to just West of K-7 and on K-7 just North and South of K-10.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.


(Topeka, Kan.) - Washburn will be closed just North of 21st Street beginning Monday until June 20th for a gas line repair.

The detour set up will be from 21st street to Topeka to 17th.


(Topeka, Kan.) - Reduced to one lane for pavement work will be South West 37th street between South West Mulvane and South West Garfield.
