A mother is speaking out to 13 News in hopes you might know who attacked her young son on his way home from the carnival Friday night.

Her son is just 12-years-old, he was hit several times and cut with a knife all over his body.

(The names have been changed in this report to protect their identity.)

It was just after 11PM Friday night and “Sandy” was on her way to the Kansas ExpoCentre to pick up her 12-year-old son, “Matt” at the carnival, but her son had already left. She looked everywhere and didn’t see him, moments later she got a panicked call on her cell phone.

“He said momma, they have cut me up. He said they have attacked me these Hispanics have attacked me for no reason at all."

“Matt” says he didn’t want to wait for his mom to come and get him and he though he could walk the few block home, he got as far as 20th & Clay when he says three men ages 15-25 jumped him. They said only a few words to him, “We are a member of the _____ gang (We are leaving the name of the gang out so they don’t get recognition for this heinous crime at the request of the Topeka Police Dept.) that’s all they said to “Matt” then they started to hit him upside the back of his head and another started slicing him all over his body with a knife.

"He was just like a bloody hawk. I put him in the car I got on the cell and called 911. I called the police department and said keep him here, I said no he is bleeding too bad, I’m taking my son to the hospital," “Sandy” recalled.

At Stormont Vail “Matt” was treated for five stab wounds from his stomach, back and legs. He is recovering at home with bandages all over his wounds.
"I thought he was going to die. I really did because he was just gushing with blood everywhere; I thought they had cut an artery," “Sandy” said with tears in her eyes.

He showed us his wounds but they were not only too graphic to show, we also wanted to conceal his identity. His mom wants justice and an end to all the violence.

"Innocent children dying, this has got to stop. These gangs and stuff, they have got to stop because I don’t want this to happen to anymore children in this town."

Sgt. Klumpp with the Topeka Police Departments admits there are indicators this is gang related violence and he is aware of the gang name we mentioned over the phone.

No arrests have been made. If you have information about last night’s violent attack on this young boy you are asked to call Topeka Detectives at 368-9400.
