The reconstruction of the five-legged intersection of Kansas Avenue, Gordon Street and NW Central Street begins Monday.
The north leg of Kansas Avenue will be closed for up to 30 days during construction and the Central Street portion of the intersection will be closed permanently. A cul-de-sac will be built at Central.
Signals will be removed and a stop sign place on the north and south leg of Kansas. Traffic on Gordon will not stop after the project is complete. Also, Central will become a two-way street and the stop condition at Central and Fairchild Street will change so that traffic on Fairchild will stop and traffic on Central will not.
The southbound detour on Kansas will be Fairchild, to Quincy Street, to Gordon. The northbound detour will be the reverse.
The project will also include new streetlights, sidewalks, and landscaping. Herrmann Excavation Inc. is the contractor for the project.
