(Topeka, KS)-- At 4:30 p.m. Sunday Topeka Police responded to Heartland Park, 7530 SW Topeka, reference a vehicle accident that occurred in the parking lot.
A pick-up was leaving the parking area in a south westerly direction, when it went on to the gravel portion of the road where four people were walking, striking two people.
A 55-year-old female from Oklahoma was transported by AMR to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital.
It was reported that she was trapped underneath the vehicle and had to be extricated.
A 52-year-old man, also from Oklahoma, was life-flighted to KU Med hospital with injuries considered to be life-threatening.
The 63-year-old male driver of the pick-up and his passenger, were not injured.
Witness Creasa Thompson says that first responders did a great job getting to the scene, "They did a WONDERFUL job of trying to save the woman & the man. I know the woman died upon arrival at the hospital but had Emergency personnel not already been at HPT, I’m sure they both would have died right there at HPT."
Alcohol and speed will be investigated by Topeka Police to see if they were contributing factors to the accident.
