An autopsy shows a heart condition likely caused the death of an inmate at the Shawnee County Jail.

49-year-old David Alan Whitt was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics just before 9 pm Tuesday.

An officer had checked on him just 25 minutes before that and said Whitt looked like he was sleeping. He soon discovered Whitt was not breathing and called emergency personnel.

Whitt was booked into the Shawnee County Jail on Monday for two city bench warrants.
