A soldier stood alone amidst the tombstones of the fallen. Slowly, he raised his trumpet and began to play. A few yards away a group gathered in the rain. Governor Kathleen Sebelius was among them as well as Col. Richard G. Piscal. They came forward and laid down a wreath with the words "Lest we forget" on it. Then a Salute Battery rang out. Canons, a chilling 21 Gun Salute.
Governor Sebelius then offered her thanks on behalf of the state of Kansas to the families of fallen soldiers and those who are active duty.
After the ceremony, several people placed flowers at the tombstones of friends and family buried at Post Cemetery.
