KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ A housing development built especially for grandparents who raise their grandchildren is due to open next year in Kansas City, Missouri.
Construction will start in September on a Housing Authority-owned parcel. The development is expected to have 26 apartments with three or four bedrooms, and 10 with two bedrooms.
Grandparents who get custody of their grandkids often get the children under difficult circumstances, and take care of them with limited living space and money. Those behind the development say it will reduce some of the challenges.
It will be built within walking distance of a medical clinic, a daycare center, grocery and other stores, and a bus line. Support meetings and educational services also will be provided.
