LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ One of the two westbound exits from Lawrence onto the Kansas Turnpike will close next month.

Turnpike Authority officials say they're starting a $140 million project to replace its bridges over the Kansas River near the city. The work is supposed to start June 16.

The plan is to replace existing two-lane bridges built in the 1950s with three-lane bridges. The entire project is expected to take about three years.

Turnpike officials said the work should have a minimal effect on traffic.

But motorists won't be able to use the west Lawrence exit -exit 202 - to get on the westbound turnpike for about six months.

They'll have to get on the turnpike at Lecompton, exit 197, or east Lawrence, exit 204.
