13 News spoke with several drivers at a local Topeka gas station. Not too many had big travel plans for the Memorial Day weekend. There is a reason: high gas prices.
It makes life tough on everyone, but certainly three major groups:
1. Commuters: Christy Zimmer drives more than an hour everyday. It takes $50 to fill up her tank. She fills it up every three days or so. You do the math. She says she lives with her parents now to save cash for her drive.
2. Teenage drivers. More than ever before, teenagers don't get gas money from their parents -- hard working parents can't afford gas for themselves and their children. So the teens must really think twice about where they drive. Those after-school jobs barely cover gas nowadays.
3. SUV owners. These gas-guzzlers can be a tough sell with prices on the rise. One SUV owner even told us she was considering walking to work to save on gas -- or trading her vehicle in.
