A squirrel left more than 200 Topekans without power Tuesday evening.

The outage hit an area around SW 10th and Gage around 6 pm Tuesday. Westar Energy says a squirrel got in the lines and sparked the outage for 260 customers. Everyone was back on by 8 pm.

Topeka Police say they did get a report of people stuck in an elevator at Lexington Park Assisted Living, but no other problems were reported.

Westar says it's not the first time they've had problems with squirrels causing outages in that area. They'll be checking the switches to see if any preventative measures can be taken.
