The Kansas Lottery Commission heard proposals from potential gaming operators on Monday. They were at the Cap Plaza to discuss their plans for a new casino in South Central Kansas, Dodge City and Kansas City, KS.

Also on hand -- protesters and supporters from Mulvane, where two of the proposals would be located. Both sides are passionate about a potential casino, and both sides spoke with 13 News.

Supporters say a casino would bring a great amount of economic growth to the area -- and the state. They also say a casino would bring high-paying jobs to Mulvane -- jobs that are needed.

Opponents say it is a social and a moral issue, and casinos will bring crime. They also believe a casino could fail, leaving hundreds of people without jobs.

The Commission was just making sure proposals were up-to-snuff. If they are, they will move on to the Gaming Facility Review board to be determined later this summer -- if the Supreme Court approves.

The winning bid could actually begin construction this fall.
