TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Officials believe renovating the Docking State Office Building is a priority, but legislators haven't provided any money for it.
The Department of Administration had hoped lawmakers would authorize $96 million in bonds for the project.
But legislators are worried that the state faces tight budget times and didn't include any authority in the budget they approved. Nor would they set aside $1 million for planning.
Yet there's little doubt that the building, just west of the Statehouse, needs some serious repairs.
Officials say none of its heating, electric or plumbing systems have been updated since the building opened in 1955. All are at least 20 years past their life span.
