Heartland Visioning has officially been started for a while now, but it is now really rolling with focus groups meeting to discuss the future of Topeka and Shawnee County.
People are meeting via invite only meetings to talk about ideas that can bring everyone together to create a better place to live.
Things discussed included minority pay scale, retaining youth in the area, improving third-grade reading scores and eliminating poverty.
Mark Thiel with Topeka Transportation said he has a teenage daughter who is about to graduate, and he would like her to want to stay in Topeka.
William Beteta of the Visioning Process said he hopes the community comes up with a "big idea" that will bring everyone together.
