TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ An Army general's promotion is being questioned because he was reprimanded last year for helping a Christian group's fundraising.
The critic heads a foundation suing the military in federal court in Kanas City, Kansas, claiming widespread violations of religious freedoms.
Mikey Weinstein of the Military and Religious Freedom Foundation objects to the Army's promotion of Brigadier General Robert Caslen. Caslen is being promoted to major general and commander of the 25th Infantry Division.
He was reprimanded last year for wearing his uniform in a video for the evangelical group Christian Embassy.
Weinstein says the promotion shows the military backs fundamentalist Christianity.
The Army stands by Caslen's promotion.
