Hundreds of volunteers gathered Thursday at the Peter Pan Park in Emporia.
Volunteers came prepared to put together a child safe playground in a park with historical significance to Emporia. A park with a history dating back 70 years.
Volunteers together with the construction crew have been working for a few days and expect the park to be finished by Sunday.
Why Peter Pan? The most famous son of Emporia Allen White donated the park to the city in memory of his late daughter Mary White. One of her favorite stories was Peter Pan hence the name of the park. The Emporia community, maintaining the same theme, is adding all new playground equipment for the kids which will benefit them for decades to come.
