The Kansas Historical Society hosted veteran stage and screen actor Norman Thomas Marshall at the Kansas History Museum on Sunday. Marshall presented his one-man drama, John Brown: Trumpet of Freedom.

Prior to the performance writer, director, and KU film professor Kevin Wilmott and Jim DeGood, director of marketing for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City spoke.

The play looks deeply into the conscience of one man who commits violent acts against those whom he deems to be guilty of grave sins against God's Law. It reiterates in powerful, graphic detail the age-old question, "Does the means justify the end?"

The event was part of the Countdown to Statehood program.
