Washburn University came through big for the United Way of Greater Topeka.
The school announced Friday it raised more than $34,000 to give back to the community through it's annual United Way campaign. The amount tops what students, staff and faculty donated last year by about $3,000.
The theme for Washburn's campaign this year was "Catch the Winning Spirit." In keeping with that theme, the wrap up celebration Friday took place at Falley Field. The event drew attention to the fundraising success, and also allowed those attending to cheer on the Washburn Ichabod baseball team as they took on the Truman State Bulldogs.
The extra fans couldn't have hurt - Washburn won, 14-4.
