Both of Kansas' U.S. senators have endorsed a fellow Republican who's running for Johnson County District Attorney. Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts are backing Steve Howe, a former assistant district attorney.
Howe hopes to replace District Attorney Phill Kline, also a Republican, who has said he won't run for the job this year. Deputy Attorney General Rick Guinn, who leads that office's criminal division, is running for the Johnson County job as a Democrat. He's also a former assistant district attorney.
Kline was appointed to the job by Johnson County Republicans, after recently resigned D.A. Paul Morrison won the Attorney General's race over Kline, in November 2006.
