Death Row Inmate Wants New Trial

A hearing will be held Thursday on a Shawnee County death row inmate's request for a new trial.

35-year-old Phillip Cheatham was sentenced to death in 2005 for the 2003 shooting deaths of two women and the attempted murder of another. Cheatham and his former attorney, Dennis Hawver, maintain Cheatham's innocence.

Cheatham is requesting a new trial, saying Hawver did not do an adequate job of representing him. Hawver is scheduled to give a deposition on Cheatham's behalf May 2nd.
