18,000 Pound Piece Of Granite Dedicated To Veterans At Gage Park

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- In honor of those veterans who have given their lives for our freedom, a large memorial was engraved Wednesday and dedicated to those brave people and their families.

The 18,000 pound piece of granite is engraved with different military awards such as the Medal of Honor and the second, third and fourth highest combat awards.

Veterans and current members of the military were present at the engraving.

Coordinators of the dedication program say the granite is one-of-a-kind in its design, and the presentation is just the first of three parts.

Another side, the POW MIA side, has yet to be finished.
