California-based American Tire says it has sent a proposal to the Goodyear board members to purchase the Topeka OTR plant at "any reasonable price."
They say if the sale goes through, they would spend $200 million to renovate what it calls an "old plant."
The plant employs more than 1,400 union members. Last month the plant shut down its radial truck tires production due to slow sales, but OTR production was not affected.
Goodyear emailed 13 News the following statement:
"We have not received any communication from American Tire Corporation and, thus, have no comment on the news release.
We are very pleased with the performance of our OTR business and continue to see opportunities for Goodyear in this business.
We have not announced plans, or an intention, to sell any part of this business."
American Tire could not be reached for comment Monday evening.
