One dozen Kansas National Guardsmen are back with their families.
The group was welcomed home Monday from Operation Enduring Freedom with a ceremony in Manhattan.
As part of the event, Capt. Charles Lunkwitz was presented the Bronze Star; Maj. Greg Edson the Purple Heart; SFC William Ferris a meritorius service medal; and Cpt. Steve Wasko the Combat Action Badge.
The Guard unit was commended for getting everyone home safely from a year full of war-fare obstacles. Congresswoman Nancy Boyda attended the ceremony.
The 12 soldiers were part of a 16-person embedded training team deployed last April for a one-year mission under the 218th brigade. The other four soldiers' tours have been extended.
