The preliminary report is out on what happened earlier this month when a Topeka Police helicopter crashed on the Washburn University campus.
The National Transportation Safety Board's initial findings say the pilot of the Robinson helicopter reported to the FAA inspector that during the flight, the engine over-speed warning light came on. During the pre-cautionary landing, the report says, a main rotor blade hit a parking lot light-pole which made for a hard landing in a parking lot outside Stoffer Science Hall.
The pilot and two observers on board were not injured.
A final report has yet to be completed. The unit remains grounded while the investigations continue.
