The Silver Lake Police Department invited kids in the community to learn about bicycle safety at Silver Lake High School Saturday.
The kids went through a bike course with officers. The course had cone obstacles that taught kids how to stop and maneuver safely while riding a bike.
All of the kids that participated were eligible to win one of two bicycle given away Saturday. One boy and one girl were lucky enough to win the bikes. As part of a partnership with Leavenworth Prison, the kids who won can choose to donate their old bikes to be refinished and donated to kids without bikes.
Silver Lake Officers say that nearly 1000 bike accidents happen each year.
