Edwardsville Approves $777 Million Casino

EDWARDSVILLE, Kansas (AP) The Edwardsville City Council votes
unanimously to allow a huge casino-resort project along Interstate
70 just south of Kansas Speedway.

Council members Monday night gave the green light to Las Vegas Sands Corp.'s application for a $777 million casino. Then the council voted unanimously vote to endorse the Sands plan for the state's consideration.

The vote came despite a protest petition bearing three valid signatures from property owners living within 200 feet of the 53-acre development.

The casino selection process is slated to end in mid-September, when the Kansas Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board makes its final decision. In addition to the Sands, four Wyandotte County casino proposals have advanced to the state.
