A bridge near a Topeka area community center gets the thumbs up for replacement.
Crews shut down the bridge over Indian Creek on Northeast 43rd Street late last month due to deterioration of steel support beams. Monday, Shawnee County Commissioners approved a $650,000 project budget to replace the bridge. The money will come from a county-wide half-cent sales tax.
The bridge is located just east of Shawnee North Community Center. Drivers can still get to the center from North Topeka Boulevard without disruption.
