One of Topeka's best barbecue houses is marking a milestone.
Boss Hawg's Barbecue and Catering celebrated its 10th anniversary Tuesday.
The birthday party was complete with balloons and birthday hats. It also a lot of memories about Hank Lumpkin, the man who changed Boss Hawg's from a catering establishment to a full fledged restaurant before his death in 2003.
"We got a lot of support from friends and family and the whole community, because it wasn't just me," said his widow, Elizabeth Lumpkin. "We persevered in his (Hank's) memory and now five years after his death and ten years after we started the restaurant, it's still a wonderful place and I still love coming to work every day."
The restaurant also honored one of the workers who's been there since the beginning, declaring it "Janelle Buetel Day."
Customers joining in the birthday celebration could get a Boss Hawg's barbecue meal for the price they would have paid back in 1998.
