Defense in Pill Mill Case Opposes Inpatient Exam

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ An attorney for a Kansas nurse who is charged with her husband of running a "pill mill'' says she's willing to submit to another psychological evaluation.

Federal prosecutors have accused Linda Schneider of faking a deteriorating mental condition in an effort to get out of jail. She and her husband, Dr. Stephen Schneider, have been held without bond since their December arrest on a 34-count federal indictment.

Their Haysville clinic has been linked to 56 deaths.

Linda Schneider's attorneys opposed a government motion demanding a 30-day inpatient evaluation.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Donald Bostwick has not yet ruled on a motion by the Schneiders to be released pending their April 2009 trial.
