TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Peggy Carr Kittel, 49, has been named a Douglas County District Court judge.

She will fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Stephen Six as attorney general.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius announced the appointment Monday.

Kittel, of Lawrence, has served as judge pro tem since 2001.

In that position, she oversees juvenile offender proceedings, criminal appearances and enforcement of child support and parenting time orders. Before that, she was in private practice.
