Medical Board Responds to KS Senate Call

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ The board regulating doctors is having a special meeting over a Senate resolution calling on it to fire some of its staff.

The State Board of Healing Arts plans to meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Board President Betty McBride called the meeting to respond to the Senate's adoption of a resolution Friday. It urges the board to promptly make "changes in personnel.''

Sen. Susan Wagle is a Wichita Republican who pushed the resolution. She says the message to the board is to "lean house.''

McBride has said the board has faith in its staff.

The resolution was a response to the case of Stephen Schneider, a Haysville physician who faces 34 federal criminal charges. Prosecutors have linked his clinic to at least 56 drug overdose deaths.
