TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ The House has passed its version of a bill dealing with illegal immigration on a 96-27 vote.
The vote Friday morning came after the chamber rewrote the bill Thursday night. It revised it to the point that its chief sponsor, Lance Kinzer disowned it and voted against it.
The Olathe Republican says the rewritten bill doesn't provide any meaningful enforcement against businesses hiring illegal immigrants.
The Senate passed its version of immigration legislation Thursday. The final version will be written by House and Senate negotiators.
