One little boy celebrated his birthday Sunday side by side St. Patrick's Day.
It was a happy day yet bittersweet. One year old Isaiah Cairns has a fatal disease called Tay-Sachs attributed to his Irish heritage. Infants with Tay-Sachs appear to develop normally for 6 months then nerve cells begin to deteriorate, with a life expectancy of 2 to 4 years old. Isaiah will become blind, deaf and paralyzed..there is no cure or treatment.
Little Isaiah is smiling though as he celebrates his birthday near a holiday that's a constant reminder for the family of where the disease comes from.
