Commissioners Give Approval for Big Trucks to Keep Rolling

Big trucks neighbors say are ruining their road, will keep rolling on.

Shawnee County Commissioners voted 2-1 Thursday morning to allow trucks leaving the Kansas Sand and Concrete pit south of the Kansas river to continue driving on NW Valencia Road.

Back in September, residents in the area appealed the Shawnee County District Court's approval of a conditional use permit to drive heavy gravel trucks on the road.

Thursday's vote requires Kansas Sand to suspend hauling operations when snow and ice accumulate on Valencia Road.

Commissioners Vic Miller and Ted Ensley voted for the measure. Shelly Buhler - who represents the area - voted against it.
