Topeka, KAN. (WIBW)--Topeka police are investigating the latest murder in the capital city. Officers responded to a report of a shooting just before five this morning to a house in the Highland Park neighborhood.

Sgt. Steve Taylor said 32-year-old Mitch Vose was shot and killed inside his home at 2633 SE Maryland Ave. Vose lived here with his son.

This marks the tenth murder in Topeka this year. Police don't know if the shooting was random or if it was connected with a previous incident.

Vose did not have a criminal record. Sgt. Taylor said in his 12 years of working homicides, this may be one of the few cases that the person killed was a true victim.

Officers were on scene investigating late into the afternoon. They have not released any description of the suspect.

Police wouldn't say if his eight-year-old son was in the home at the time of the shooting. No one else was injured during the incident.

If you have any information, police urge you to call Det. Bryan Wheeles at (785) 368-9022 or Crimestoppers at (785) 234-0007. Remember, you can remain anonymous.
