(CNN) - Six family members riding in a police vehicle were among the eight people killed in a crash with a city bus, Argentina's government said Tuesday.
Two police officers operating the vehicle also died as a result of Monday's early morning crash in Buenos Aires, Argentina's capital.
The police vehicle was transporting an 83-year-old Peruvian woman who was complaining of heart problems, the government-run Telam news agency said. Three of her children and two grandchildren, ages 21 and 22, were in the vehicle with her, Telam said. All were killed.
One of the police officers also died at the scene of the 12:30 a.m. collision. The other officer died a short while later at a local hospital.
Authorities were still investigating the accident Tuesday. Witnesses told police the police vehicle went through a red light and hit the bus on the driver's side, Telam said. The impact spun the bus around so it ended up facing in the opposite direction.
