Posted: 10/21/2008 - Even with the slumping economy, there is some good news in the state of Kansas. Employment stats out Tuesday show Kansas businesses gained 2,100 jobs in the last year, a 0.2% increase. Government added 4,400 jobs in the last year, a 1.7% increase.

Singletary acknowledged mixed feelings when the 49ers asked him to be the interim successor to Nolan, the dapper coach whose teams never played as well as he dressed. Nolan was fired Monday night after seven games in his fourth consecutive dismal season.

Posted: 10/21/2008 - A Detroit-area man faces a variety of charges after nearly hitting a patrol car and telling police that singer Beyonce was waiting to meet him in New York, authorities said. The man, 33, of Macomb Township, Mich., was detained early Sunday after driving in a "reckless manner" in a parking lot and nearly striking a parked patrol car, said police spokesman Vaughan Dumas.

Posted: 10/21/2008 - The criminal driving-without-a-license case against Britney Spears in Los Angeles has been dismissed. A mistrial was declared Tuesday morning when jurors said they couldn't come up with a unanimous decision following two full days of deliberations. Jurors were deadlocked 10-2 in favor of acquitting the pop singer of any wrongdoing.
