TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A talented group of high schoolers sung their way to gold.

Students in the Junior-Senior Choir at Washburn Rural High School recently earned a number one rating at state competition for the 28th year in a row. In addition, 43 students traveled to a competition in Chicago and brought home the gold, the highest award.

The journey and the accomplishments have been unforgettable, for botht he students and director Adam White.

"I'm honored," White said. "It's a great recognition, but it's not really my focus. My focus is to teach the kids and make beautiful music."

Singers head to Emporia Saturday with high schoolers from around the state for soloist and small group competition.
