TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - An organization committed to providing change in local communities got a hand from area young people Monday.
The Youth Volunteer Corps of Greater Topeka lent a hand sprucing up the Topeka Zoo. The youngsters were building a fence and doing other work to get the zoo's summer ice rink set up. Many were first-time builders and this was their introduction to using power tools.
The 24-day summer service program will continue through July for area youth between the ages of 11 to 18. It is run through the United Way of Greater Topeka.
